A key measure of inflation rose more in the first half of the year than initially reported.
The personal consumption expenditure price index, a measure of inflation produced by the Commerce Department, showed prices rising at a 7.5 percent annualized rate in the first quarter and 7.3 percent in the second quarter. The previous estimate had prices rising at a 7.1 percent rate in each quarter.
The U.S. economy was even weaker in the first half of the year than initially reported
Gross Domestic Product contracted by 1.6 percent in the first three months of 2022 and by 0.6 percent in the April through June quarter, meaning the economy shrank for two consecutive quarters.
